According to Carbon Monitor programme/Nature analysis, global emissions fell by 6.4% in 2020 as a result of COVID-19 lockdowns. The decline is significant and is roughly double Japan’s yearly emissions.
Here's the thing, to achieve the goals set by the Paris climate accord, we need to reduce global emissions by 7.6% percent per year. The above statistics shows that even the reductions as a result of pandemic lockdowns are not enough to achieve this. So, are we really committed to the Paris Climate Accord?
